Jimmie L. Young began his lifelong interest in photography at 16 when his mother gave him a Miranda film camera. While adjusting to his family’s move from Hunters Point to Palo Alto he remembers wanting to photograph a red-tailed hawk out his window. Jimmie continued to document his life throughout his time in the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton.
Later he found a mentor in professional photographer William Buchanan and was soon photographing weddings, celebrations and family gatherings as well as flowers, animals and birds. His experiences during this time led him to decide he wanted to focus on one type of photography.
And, as Jimmie says: “I went to nature: animals and flowers don’t argue with you.” He finds photography interesting and rewarding and is particularly focused on the effect of the seasons on the subjects of his photos.
